The present town of Laytonsville, Maryland, is built on a tract known as the Addition to Brooke Grove.  Originally granted to James Brooke in 1762, this 8000 acre tract was one of the largest land holdings in the area.

Cracklintown, established in 1789, was the oldest documented settlement in the immediate Laytonsville Area.  Cracklintown was near the Cracklin Tavern near the intersection of Laytonsville and Brink Roads.

Laytonsville was named for John Layton who inherited and lived in the Federal style brick home on the corner of Brink and Laytonsville Roads.  Laytonsville was incorporated in 1892.
